Despite what has been a mostly quiet offseason after promises by the owner and management for aggresively going after free agents, the Baltimore Orioles are still looking to make some moves to improve their ball club. As far as position players go, the Orioles are interested in CF Kenny Lofton and SS Nomar Garciaparra. It appears Garciaparra will end up elsewhere, but the O's are still in the Lofton sweepstakes. The pitching market is a little more uncertain. Kevin Millwood is looking for a contract in the neighborhood of the one P A.J. Burnett recently signed. The Orioles certainly won't dish out that much for his services. P Jarrod Washburn is intriguing, but his agent is Scott Boras, who tends to request outrageous contracts. A trade is also a possibility, although it looks like one would not involve SS Miguel Tejada, who has changed his previous statements about wanting a 'change of scenery.' Relief pitcher Jorge Julio could certainly be traded, as could C Javy Lopez and P Rodrigo Lopez. Look for the Orioles to acquire two or three more players by the time New Years rolls around.
