James Brown’s funeralwas held today at the James Brown Arena in Augusta, Ga. The legendary singer died of heart failure on Christmas Day in Atlanta. On Thursday, the masses turned out to the Apollo Theater in New York City for the viewing, and a private service for family and friends was held yesterday. Rev. Al Sharpton, a very close friend of Brown, told the Associated Press, it would almost be unthinkable for a man who lived such a sensational life to go away quietly. Brown died two days after he was hospitalized for pneumonia; the day prior, he had been handing out toys to kids in Georgia for the holidays. He had announced a national tour that was set to begin in January.
