The Baltimore Orioles are still looking to make some major offseason moves despite several of their key targets already moving on to other teams. The Orioles have already lost closer B.J. Ryan to the Toronto Blue Jays via free agency. They also saw 1B Carlos Delgado traded to the New York Mets, who also then signed closer Billy Wagner. Current targets remained P Paul Byrd, SS Nomar Garciaparra, P A.J. Burnett and 1B Paul Konerko. The O's may also look to pick up a catcher to spell C Javy Lopez or to take the full-time job, allowing Lopez to play first or DH. There have been rumors flying lately that the Orioles may be looking to trade young and talented P Erik Bedard to either the Philadelphia Phillies or Cincinnati Reds. It seems the Orioles don't know whether Bedard has the mental makeup or toughness to be an ace and are concerned about the knee injury which caused him to miss more starts than expected last season. Baltimore feels it may be able to add a big bat to the middle of its lineup if it parts with the promising young pitcher. Either way, the O's seem poised to do something to show its fan base that it intends to put a winning product on the field and then next month should go a long way in deciding whether they can put their words into action.
