The Washington Redskins seem to have finally gotten their offense out of neutral. All it took was playing the league's worst defensive unit and worst overall team. The Houston Texans did a great job of making the Skins offense look potent on Sunday. The question that has to be asked is whether the offense is really as good as it looked or whether the offense looked good just because they played the Texans? I believe it is a combination of the two. The Texans couldn't stop their cheer leaders from driving on them, so it is really impossible to tell how well the Skins will perform against a better NFL defense when they are in sync. Mark Brunell did complete his first 22 passes but he was throwing to wide open receivers and hardly ever threw the ball downfield. Screen passes and check downs worked fine against Houston, but a stout defense will force Brunell to throw the ball downfield and I still doubt his ability to do so. The talent is definitely there. Moss and Randle El are two of the most dangerous receivers in the NFL after the catch. A healthy Clinton Portis opens the field up tremendously, which should make a difference in the coming weeks. Next week will be a tough test against a very good Jacksonville defense that held the Colts' offense to 14 points. They will come out angry and fired up after a bitter loss to Indy last week, so I don't expect a huge game out of the Redskins offensive group. Hopefully by week six it will be easier to gauge how effective and dangerous the Redskins offense can be.
