Phillies avoid sweep by beating Mets 5-3
The Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Mets 5-3 on Sunday to avoid being swept in a four-game series in Philadelphia. The Phillies improved their record to 42-40. The Mets fell to 46-34.
The Mets scored the first run of the game when Paul Lo Duca's single sent Jose Reyes home. Carlos Delgado scored the Mets' other two runs, one of which was a solo homer in the fourth.
Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino had a home run each for the Phillies as they moved to within five games of the Mets, who currently lead their division.
