The Detroit Tigers beat the Boston Red Sox 6-5 on Sunday. The Tigers improved their record to 52-34, and the Red Sox are now 53-34. Despite the loss, Boston still has a ten-game lead over their division.
Jeff Bailey and Julio Lugo hit back-to-back home runs for Boston in the seventh to bring the team up from a 6-2 deficit. Lugo also had a run in the third and an RBI double in the eighth.
Gary Sheffield scored the first run of the game for the Tigers with his solo homer in the first inning. Carlos Guillen and Marcus Thames each had a homer in the third to help Detroit take a 5-2 lead over Boston. In addition to his homer, Sheffield had a run in the third and an RBI double in the fourth.
