With a win against the Nationals and the Mets’ loss to the Marlins, the Philadelphia Phillies have clinched a playoff berth for the first time sine 1993. At the beginning of September, the New York Mets had a seven-game lead over the NL East, a lead which they’d had for nearly the entire season. With only 17 games left to play in the season, the Phillies managed to close the gap and, on the last day of the regular season, gain the lead by a half a game.

The Phillies will play the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday in the divisional round of the playoffs.
